“The new academic year will hopefully begin in a traditional manner and according to a normal working schedule, but we must also prepare for the possibility of schools having to once again transition to digital teaching because of the coronavirus epidemic”, Minister of State for Pubic Education Zoltán Maruzsa said on Kossuth Radio’s “Good Morning, Hungary!” show on Monday.
Mr. Maruzsa said that it will hopefully be possible to avoid a systemic transition to a new working schedule in the autumn, but decisions on this need only be made in cases where it is necessary from an epidemiological perspective. “There are still 6 weeks until the beginning of the school year, and during this time, based on the experience of recent months, we will be examining what new technological solutions may be applied if home education will once again have to be introduced”, he stated.
“The beginning of the school year will also be used to prepare for extraordinary events”, he added.
The State Secretary also spoke about the fact that high school students had successfully prepared for their final exams. “Students achieved an average score of 3.62/5.0, which corresponds to the average results for the past five years. However, the ratio of fails was much lower, at just 0.89 percent”, Mr. Maruzsa said.
