Minister of Human Capacities Zoltán Balog received Angel Gurría, Secretary-General of the OECD (Organisation for Economic Co-operation and Development) in his office today.
At the bilateral meeting, the Secretary-General stressed: the organisation’s relationship with Hungary is excellent, and he offered even closer cooperation in the areas of education, health care, Roma integration and early childhood intervention. The structure of the Ministry of Human Capacities serves the cooperation and efficiency of these sectors remarkably, he added.
Minister of Human Capacities Zoltán Balog highlighted at the meeting: the Government of Hungary is working towards reducing territorial differences in actual access to services. This is a priority for the Government, and it is therefore allocating significant development funds for the purpose. The Hungarian Minister added: Hungary relies on the OECD’s professional recommendations. In answer to the Secretary-General’s question, Mr Balog rendered an account of the Government’s Roma integration programme and its results, highlighting that the number of Roma students in higher education has doubled in Hungary recently.
Angel Gurría and Zoltán Balog agreed to continue personal consultations with the OECD at the beginning of November. Expert-level consultations will be conducted on an ongoing basis also until that point in time.
