At a press conference in Debrecen on Thursday, Minister of State for Education László Palkovics said that the higher education act will not have to be amended due to yesterday’s resolution of the European Parliament.

In answer to a question, Mr. Palkovics said that the new legislation is no CEU-law but the amendment of the higher education act, which affects a number of institutions.

The legislation passes the test of both constitutionality and that of the EU’s fundamental values,  Mr. Palkovics said and added that the Government received a letter from the European Commission three weeks ago, which will be answered.

The law amendment is not seen as problematic from either the perspective of fundamental values, the free flow of services nor that of constitutionality; the EP resolution was a political one.
