Defending our children and ensuring their safety is a common responsibility, Minister of State for Family and Youth Affairs Katalin Novák said on Wednesday in Budapest at a conference marking the 25th anniversary of the UN Convention on the Rights of the Child.
The Minister of State stressed that ensuring the rights of children while at the same time respecting the inner rules of functional families requires deliberate efforts, adding that the welfare of children goes hand in hand with the welfare of families.
DownloadAt the conference, she provided an overview of the Hungarian public education and child protection system, with special emphasis on everyday physical education, ethics and religious education, preparing children for family life as well as the compulsory teaching of the history and culture of the Hungarian Roma. With regard to the anniversary, she said that ensuring the rights of children poses different challenges worldwide.
The Hungarian government works together with the United Nations in combating child abuse. In the coming year, the Ministry of Human Capacities will elaborate a comprehensive amendment of existing legislation for its better enforcement.
