Although charity organizations too are faced with a huge challenge due to the migration crisis, three of them will continue to focus their attention on the Transarpathian region, Minister of State for Churches, National Minorities and Civil Affairs Miklós Soltész said on Sunday on national television channel M1.

He said that the Hungarian Red Cross, the Hungarian Charity Service of the Order of Malta and the Hungarian Interchurch Aid have already received the first instalment of the government support worth HUF 200 million (EUR 642,000) and thus they can provide assistance as needed in the Croatian or Austrian border regions.

Mr. Soltész said that after discussing the situation with several charities, they agreed that the Transcarpathian region should not be left out of sight either. The Caritas Hungarica, the Baptist Aid and the Hungarian Reformed Church Aid will focus their efforts on helping the Hungarians living there.

In response to a question, Mr. Soltész said he hoped that the Hungarian initiative according to which the Central European bishops’ conferences should organize joint aid collection for the benefit of Christian camps in Syria, Iraq and Lebanon will also come to fruition.
