The Government regards what happened to people under care at the TOPhÁZ Special Home in Göd as unacceptable.

The Ministry of Human Capacities has launched a special investigation into the home, the results of which will be made public as soon as the investigation comes to a close. As the institution’s maintainer, the Directorate for Social Services and Child Protection has suspended the institution’s director with immediate effect and has ordered the appointment of a new temporary director. The Government’s goal is to do away with large institutions and place the disabled and psychiatric patients living there into a more homely environment. The TOPhÁZ Special Home in Göd is also scheduled to close in the near future within the framework of the replacement programme.

The Government decided at the beginning of this year to accelerate and shorten the replacement process by five years and to place greater emphasis on facilitating access to local public administration and employability. In the first phase of the replacement programme, some 2500 disabled people will be able to move out of large-scale social institutions by the end of next year, for which the Government is providing a budget of 21.8 billion forints (EUR 70M). The Government is committed to providing disabled people with the opportunity to live independently as much as possible and to live as part of the community.
