Minister of State for Family and Youth Affairs Katalin Novák announced that women’s employment rate in Hungary is on the rise and will soon reach the average level of the European Union.
Ms. Novák pointed out that as the system of nurseries has also been restructured, as a result of which as of January this year, three new types of nurseries have been introduced: mini, family and workplace nurseries. She added that employers are also being given incentives to set up nurseries, such as for example the possibility to deduct of the costs of establishing and operating the nursery from their tax base.
Speaking on the morning news programme of national television channel M1, Ms. Novák said that family allowances have reached 4.7 percent of the gross domestic product, and the figure is almost twice as high as the OECD average of 2.4 percent. She also explained that between 2010 and 2016 family allowances have been rising continuously, and by 2017, they will be almost 1.5 times higher than in 2010.
Ms. Novák pointed out the facilitation of so called atypical forms of employment for women – such as part-time jobs, telework, remote work and alternative work schedules – among the Government’s top priorities
