The fourth Hungarian contingent has returned to Hungary from their one-month mission on the Macedonian-Greek border.

The twenty-five police officers were received on behalf of the Ministry of Interior and the National Police Headquarters in Budapest by János Balogh, Commander of the Operational Police, Major General and Operational Deputy Chief of Police.

Mr. Balogh said that the contingent had carried out protection, patrol and accompaniment tasks in the vicinity of the Macedonian-Greek border since 25 July.

He stressed that just as other Visegrád countries have helped Hungary, Hungary is also helping in maintaining order, complying with laws and enforcing them.

Mr. Balogh said that over the past month members of the contingent have apprehended 497 illegal migrants. Most of these have arrived from Afghanistan, but there were also Syrian, Pakistani, Egyptian and Indian citizens among them.

He added that this number also shows that the migration pressure has not decreased, and “mass migration has not stopped”. There is actually an increasing number of people coming from various countries, who feel that their only chance of a better life is in Europe.

At the end of his speech Mr. Balogh thanked the police officers for their “outstanding” work on behalf of the Ministry of Interior and the National Police Headquarters.
