On M1 television channel’s Wednesday morning show, Parliamentary Minister of State at the Ministry of Interior Károly Kontrát said that Hungary has shown an example by protecting its southern border, and more and more countries have started to follow the Hungarian model.

Mr. Kontrát mentioned that, for instance, on Tuesday the Slovenian Prime Minister had announced that his country would set up a physical barrier along the Slovenian-Croatian border.

The Minister of State also said that three people were detained at the Hungarian-Serbian border on Tuesday, and as far as the Hungarian-Croatian border is concerned, no illegal border crossings had taken place: “we have been able to protect the southern border”.

He added that Hungary is also paying attention to the Hungarian-Romanian border section, because it is in the country’s interest to stop illegal migrants from entering the country. Romania is seeking to become a member of the Schengen zone, so if it claims that it meets the Schengen requirements, Hungary hopes that it will be able to protect the Romanian-Serbian border, he said.

Mr. Kontrát also mentioned that at the moment Slovenia is under the greatest pressure, and for this reason Hungary has sent fifty border police officers to the country; meanwhile it has also received help from other Visegrád countries.

It seems that the European Union has not found the right answer to the migration crisis, he said. There are tens of thousands of people on their way to Germany on a daily basis, but the Union is not able to handle this: it cannot compel Greece to protect the Greek-Turkish border, although Greece has the third largest army in the EU.
