In Parliament on Tuesday Parliamentary State Secretary at the Ministry of Interior Károly Kontrát stressed that the aim of amending the legislation on entry and residence regulations for third country citizens and on the country’s border regulations is to ensure that no migrant can stay in Hungary illegally.
Mr. Kontrát said that it is important for quick decisions to be made in cases related to migrants.
He said that migrants who are apprehended within eight kilometres of the border will be escorted back to the transit zones, where will have the opportunity to apply for asylum.
This regulation will only be applied if the migrant concerned cannot be proved to have entered Hungary by committing a crime – in other words, by damaging the border fence.
Mr. Kontrát also pointed out that the border authorities will not automatically deport those who file for asylum in the transit zone.
