“A sixth contingent of Hungarian police left for Macedonia on Thursday; the 25 police officers will patrol the Macedonian-Greek border”, the National Police Headquarters announced on its website.
According to the statement, the Hungarian police officers will be cooperating with their Macedonian colleagues for a month, primarily performing border patrol duties to prevent and detect illegal border crossings. In addition, they will also be involved in apprehending people smugglers and immigrants who have entered the territory of Macedonia illegally.
The professionals travelling to Macedonia will not only be on duty in the immediate vicinity of the border, but also on main and minor roads within the country’s territory, the statement continues.
The police officers operating in Macedonia will be performing their duties using with their own service equipment, including four wheel drive vehicles, heat cameras and night vision devices, and will be working under the orders and supervision of the Macedonian party.
