The duty of the Commission is to explore what impact tech companies have on the institutions and functioning of the rule of law, the enforcement of personal freedoms and fundamental democratic norms.

According to Justice Minister Judit Varga, this Commission will seek to respond to one of the most significant challenges of past decades in the form of the following questions: Will we be able to control technology or will technology control our lives? Will the rule of law prevail over tech companies or are tech companies above the law? Will we be able to preserve our personal freedom in cyberspace?

The Commission will scrutinise the current regulation of online activities topic by topic; the White Paper covering the relevant topics will be available at www.digitalisszabadsag.hu.

The Ministry of Justice is also expecting opinions from companies, social actors and private individuals which the task force will use during its work.
