“One cannot differentiate between citizens; dual nationals living abroad can also vote in many Western European countries”, Minister of Justice László Trócsányi said on Hungarian M1 television’s Monday evening current affairs program.

“Some 3.5 million international citizens can vote during elections in Italy, for example. Furthermore, the majority of Hungarians have not found themselves outside the country’s borders voluntarily, but as a result of dictated peace treaties. Hungary has chosen the caring home country model and maintains a close relationship with cross-border fellow nationals”, Mr. Trócsányi highlighted.

“The Constitution talks about a unified Hungarian nation, which can be cultural, political or legal, and the latter must also be embodied in electoral law. This bond was not objected to by any of the European forums”, the Minister explained.
