On Monday, Justice Minister Judit Varga paid a visit to Szerencs in Borsod-Abaúj-Zemplén County where together with Zsófia Koncz, Fidesz-KDNP’s candidate for Member of Parliament for the constituency she called on families.
The politician told the public service media that as a native of Miskolc “there was no question” that before the Sunday parliamentary by-election she would pay a visit to the constituency to show her support for Ms. Koncz.
“It’s very important that when one comes to visit a city, one should not only walk down its streets, but should also drop in on families and talk about everyday things as this is the way to truly appreciate what it is that is important for the city and where the government is able to help the people,” Ms. Varga said explaining the purpose of her visit.
She said she had consulted with the government parties’ candidate for Member of Parliament about the opportunities the next EU financial framework would be able to offer the North Hungary region, while they also discussed the development opportunities of the University of Miskolc.
“I have great plans about turning the university into an attractive educational institution which will be able to keep those born in the region here as locals moving away from the region and keeping young people locally are among the most formidable challenges,” said the Minister who is also the president of the board of trustees of the higher education institution.
Ms. Varga stressed that the government would like to offer career paths all the way from creche to retirement, and in this the University of Miskolc will play an important role.
Through the promotion of investments and cooperation with researchers and businesses, the region will be given job creation opportunities, the Justice Minister said.
In answer to a question, Ms. Koncz said she was happy to welcome the Minister to her home town, and as a Szerencs inhabitant she took the view that the upgrading of main road 37 to a dual carriageway and the continuation of EU developments are especially important for the settlement.
Additionally, she consulted with Minister Varga about agricultural developments as these are also significant issues in the region, the government-party candidate added.
