The Hungarian and Moroccan justice ministers held talks on migration policy and the importance of border controls in Marrakesh, Morocco.
In a statement to Hungarian news agency MTI on Tuesday, Minister of Justice László Trócsányi said that on Sunday and Monday he had attended the international conference on the independence of the judiciary in Marrakesh, on the sidelines of which he had held several bilateral meetings.
The Minister informed his Moroccan counterpart with relation to Hungarian migration policy and the importance of border controls, and about the fact that handling migration is one of the basic elements of national sovereignty.
The Moroccan Justice Minister assured Mr. Trócsányi of his support and explained that border security and punishing the illegal border crossing is also important to Morocco, which has also seen the arrival of large numbers of migrants, and which accordingly also has experience with relation to the difficulties involved in handling migration.
According to Mr. Trócsányi, both parties regard it as important that European countries should not only battle migration in words and with idealistic notions, but should provide concrete support to African countries that require it. The Moroccan Justice Minister was highly appreciative of the fact that the countries of the Visegrád Group have contributed 35 million Euros to the EU’s Emergency Trust Fund (EUTF) for Africa, he added.
Also discussed at the meeting was the need to increase confidence in the judicial system, as well as the results achieved within the field of digitalisation.
Mr. Trócsányi also met with Indian Minister of Justice Ravi Shankar Prasad, with whom he determined that the existing excellent political and economic cooperation between the two countries should be expanded to also include judicial cooperation. The Indian Justice Minister accepted his invitation to visit Hungary, the Hungarian Minister informed the press.
