László Trócsányi believes that making decisions concerning citizens should not fall under EU competence but must remain a national competence.

On 4 September 2016, the Minister of Justice told the Kossuth Radio programme Sunday News that he was also convinced that it was not appropriate if the right of the state concerned became symbolic in a national matter.

Ha added that the referendum on the issue in October could confirm authorisation given to the state.

“I think, from this point on we can also initiate a political debate – or maybe a legal debate – which will make the Hungarian position clear”, he said.

According to the Minister, the “deficit” of the European Union is the very result of the fact that important matters concerning the population are not discussed with them, while the quota is exactly a matter that could only be implemented with a broad consensus.
