Security is in Europe’s best interest, and we must therefore wake up and start thinking where this path which Europe has set out on will lead us to, Minister of Justice László Trócsányi told the public service television news channel M1 on Saturday evening in front of the St. Stephen’s Basilica where the victims of the Paris attacks were commemorated.

He said: in response to the events in Paris, the Hungarian Government, too, must consider how the security of Hungary can be reinforced.

He pointed out that the Western-European and Eastern-European States should sit down to consult with respect to preparing for the threat – which is present everywhere – together.

The Minister, who served as Hungary’s Ambassador to Paris for four years, was evidently shaken by the events, and said: he spoke to several of his acquaintances living in the French capital after the incident, and in his view, the “drama” which occurred will scar everyone’s memory.

These attacks were directed against European values, and their psychological effects are very grave, he added.

In his view, the Friday night attacks are proof of the fact that the terrorists are well-organised, strong, numerous and extremely cruel.

The Friday night bloody attacks claimed 128 lives, and some 300 were injured. The terrorist organisation Islamic State claimed responsibility for the attacks committed in multiple locations.
