„Criminal proceedings were launched in thirty-five cases with respect to the illegal crossing of the border security fence in the vicinity of the Hungarian-Serbian border on Tuesday”, Spokesperson for the National Police Headquarters Viktória Csiszér-Kovács said on Wednesday.

At a press conference held by the National Police Headquarters (ORFK), Ms. Csiszér-Kovács told reporters that the police are also investigating other possible crimes, such as damage to the border security fence, which may have occurred during the course of illegal border crossing.

Police took action against 316 people along the Hungarian-Serbian border on Tuesday, and a quarter to a fifth of those apprehended were minors. No suspicion of crime arose with relation to the majority of migrants, and accordingly immigration proceedings were initiated in their case.

The Spokesperson also said that the motorway and road border stations at Röszke are currently closed to traffic, in addition to which the border crossing station at Ásotthalom is also closed, but border traffic is unaffected at Tompa.

The Office of Immigration and Nationality’s Regional Director for the Southern Great Plain area József Seres told reporters that the Office had received 171,920 asylum requests and there are currently 698 people in the various receiving stations.

93 asylum requests were submitted in recent days in Röszke and one at Tompa, at the transit zones that came into operation on Tuesday. 74 of the arriving immigrants required special care: 13 families with small children and two elderly people.

48 rulings were brought on Tuesday: applications were ruled unacceptable in 19 cases, proceedings were discontinued in one case, and seven applicants asked that the rulings in their cases be reviewed, Mr. Seres said.

A total of 40 people were present in the transit zones on Wednesday morning, he added.
