Speaking on Hungarian M1 television’s Monday morning current affairs program, the Chief Security Advisor to the Prime Minister said a new migration route could become established via the Black Sea.
“A significant movement of people across the Black Sea began a few weeks ago”, he said, adding that “naturally the goal is to reach Hungary via Romania”.
The Balkan migration route shifted towards the Serbian-Romanian border following the tightening of Hungarian border security, with people trying to enter Hungarian territory from that direction, he pointed out.
The number of people arriving via the Hungarian-Romanian border is relatively low in comparison to the level of migration pressure, but if their numbers continue to increase, we will examine whether there is a need to reinforce border security, he said.
Speaking later on Kossuth Radio’s “180 Minutes” program, Mr. Bakondi drew attention to the fact that according to official estimates some 60 million migrants could set out for Europe in the upcoming years, and “just a fraction of this number represents a major danger”, particularly in view of the fact that the majority of developed countries can no longer be considered as targets for migration.
