According to the Prime Minister’s Chief Security Advisor, a new migration route is emerging, which is approaching the European Union from the east.
Speaking on Hungarian M1 Television’s Saturday evening current affairs program, György Bakondi said that increasing numbers of illegal immigrants are arriving in Poland via Ukraine, Belarus and Lithuania, and the number of refugees travelling along this new route has increased by several orders of magnitude in recent weeks.
Mr. Bakondi stressed that migrants and people smugglers are continuously searching for weak points in the system, and this is yet another reason why it would be important to adopt the Hungarian proposal, according to which migration must be stopped at the border of the Schengen Area, as soon as possible.
The Chief Security Advisor to the Prime Minister also spoke about the fact that there are currently some 7500 known migrants in Serbia, whom the authorities wanted to take to camps at the onset of the cold weather, but many of them are staying clear of the facilities provided because they would have to register there and submit a request for asylum.
