“Hungary has a close relationship with neighbouring countries that extends to all areas of homeland security, and also with the countries that are affected by illegal immigration”, Chief Security Advisor to the Prime Minister György Bakondi said in an interview for Hungarian daily Magyar Hírlap, published on Tuesday.
“We are working on developing a real-time exchange of information with regard to counter-terrorism, because this is the only possible way of taking effective action against people who are planning acts of terrorism”, he added.
The Chief Security Advisor also spoke about the fact that the Balkan countries are protecting their borders increasingly efficiently, as a result of which people smugglers are trying to find new channels for the tens of thousands of migrants who are trapped along the Balkan migration route. Mr. Bakondi said that although Romanian border security authorities are taking effective action, Hungary has increased the protection of its border with Romania, and albeit for the moment the Government does not feel it is necessary to construct a fence, construction can begin immediately if the need arises.
