According to György Bakondi, Chief Security Advisor to the Prime Minister, in Bosnia and Herzegovina a very large number of migrants have become stranded, and as a result a situation “similar to that observed in 2015” has developed.
On Tuesday evening on the public service television news channel M1 Mr Bakondi said that after the closure of the Hungarian border, it was uncertain for a long time which way migrants would be heading, but today the main direction is via Albania, Montenegro, Bosnia and Herzegovina, Croatia and Slovenia to Italy.
The Croatian police are guarding their borders stringently, while the Slovenians, if possible, even more stringently, he said, adding that in Bosnia and Herzegovina the arrival of migrants in large numbers has caused an “almost untenable” situation due to the slow decision-making process within the government and the inadequate number of police personnel.
The chief security advisor indicated that this situation requires European assistance, and Hungary, too, is making every effort it can under the circumstances as stability in the Balkans will also determine the stability of Europe in the long run.
He said that the illegal migrants do not want to stay in Bosnia and Herzegovina, they want to move on, primarily to Germany or Sweden.
