The Government will repeatedly extend the crisis situation introduced on account of mass immigration until the beginning of September, György Bakondi, Chief Security Advisor to the Prime Minister’s said.
Mr Bakondi highlighted on the Wednesday morning programme of the public service television news channel M1: some 60 to 80, but at times as many as 100 to 150 illegal border-crossing attempts are registered daily at the Hungarian state border. The situation on the Serbian border section, but also elsewhere, including the Ukrainian and Romanian border sections, warrants the „intensive deployment” of the police and defence forces, and it is the crisis situation that is in force also at present that allows this.
The Government introduced a state of crisis situation caused by mass immigration almost a year ago, effective as of 9 March 2016, for the entire territory of Hungary. According to the draft now released on the Government’s website, the decree on the extension of the crisis situation, which will enter into force on 6 March, will remain effective until 7 September.
Mr Bakondi said on the programme of M1 regarding migration movements: more intensive movement can be observed in the direction of Italy this year. Additionally, based on secret service intelligence, the members of the terrorist organisation that refers to itself as the Islamic State are more intensively involved in the organisation of these movements. Illegal migrants typically arrive from Libya by boats, the chief advisor for internal security added, remarking: there are further typical routes from Tunisia and Egypt as well.
Mr Bakondi said that the migration situation will be a priority issue also at the meeting of the Fidesz-KDNP parliamentary group which will begin on Wednesday and will extend to Friday. Interior Minister Sándor Pintér will provide an overview of the situation at the meeting in Visegrád on Thursday.
