The disinfection of the Pesti út elderly care home has begun. On Sunday morning, soldiers arrived at the scene and began the work which – as expected – could last for days, the public service television news channel M1 reported.
They recalled that Chief Medical Officer Cecília Müller ordered the full disinfection of the institution after almost 200 persons had become infected with the coronavirus in the elderly care home and eight persons had died. An investigation has also been launched in order to determine whether the elderly residents had access to adequate medical care.
According to M1’s report, members of the chemical battalion of the Hungarian Defence Forces arrived at the elderly care home a few minutes before 9.00 a.m. The soldiers put on protective gowns and gas masks.
On the programme, Ferenc Koromi, Chief of Staff of the Hungarian Defence Forces said they will use various neutralising substances.
“On wall tiles and floor tiles they will use a chlorine-based substance, while in the residential areas – in order to protect the health of elderly residents as well as their valuables, furniture and other objects – they will apply alcohol-based disinfectants,” he said. He added that in some places they will deploy biological neutralising substances with the aid of cool-mist humidifiers.
M1’s report highlighted that the soldiers themselves had been disinfected before starting work, and proceeding from the gate, they “moved forward literally centimetre by centimetre”.
