The environmental permitting process necessary for the construction of the Paks II project has been initiated.

An important part of the process is the public hearings, which will be conducted over the next two months in 41 settlements – Government Commissioner in Charge of Maintaining the Performance of the Paks Nuclear Plant Attila Aszódi announced on Tuesday at a press conference organised in Kalocsa, the location of the first public hearing.

The Government Commissioner emphasised that with the permitting process launched, the Paks II project has started a new chapter in terms of both quality and quantity.

Mr Aszódi also explained that the permitting process has a domestic and an international phase as well. In the international phase 30 European countries have received the documentation of the environmental impact assessment, out of these, 10 have indicated that they would like to participate in the environmental administrative procedure – he added.
