With the coronavirus epidemic, a new threat has appeared among illegal migrants, the Chief Security Advisor to the Prime Minister stressed on the Friday evening programme of the public service television news channel M1.

György Bakondi added that all states on the Balkans route had closed down their borders, some even resorting to military force in order to protect the citizens of their countries, primarily against the coronavirus.

He said on the Greek-Turkish border the number of migrants is diminishing; however, the Greek islands continue to remain overcrowded and the coronavirus has appeared as well.

The chief security advisor highlighted that so far more than 8,800 persons had attempted to enter the territory of Hungary illegally on the Serbian and Romanian border sections. He added that further major military contingents will join the guarding of the borders.
