As long as the European Union (EU) is unable to protect its borders, it appears weak, and migrants perceive this as an invitation, the Chief Security Advisor to the Prime Minister said on the public service television news channel M1 and on the programme 180 minutes of Kossuth Rádió.
György Bakondi said on M1 that everyone agrees with the protection of the external borders at the level of declarations, but nothing actually happens to this end. There is a contradiction between words and actions, he indicated.
The Chief Advisor pointed out on the programme 180 minutes of Kossuth Rádió that there are ideas and correct decisions in vain if there is always an element in these which leads back to the earlier flawed policy. He mentioned as an example the setting up of the European Border and Coast Guard Agency with a staff of 1,500 where it eventually transpired that the number of those who are actually guarding the borders is fewer than five hundred.
