“Despite the deterioration of the European internal security situation, the measures introduced by the European Union continue to encourage the reception of illegal migrants”, the Chief Security Advisor to the Prime Minister said on Hungarian M1 television’s Wednesday morning current affairs program.
György Bakondi pointed out that during the past year and a half some 30 acts of terrorism have been committed in Europe, killing 350 people and injuring 1700 others.
“Despite this, the European Parliament’s Committee on Civil Liberties, Justice and Home Affairs (LIBE) has developed a draft resolution according to which all migrants must be allowed into the European Union with no upper threshold. This goes against everything that the Hungarian Government and rationally thinking European leaders represent”, he added.
According to Mr. Bakondi, in the long term the decision to increase the reception of migrants is endangering Europe’s internal security and the sovereignty of member states, and will destroy cultural traditions, meaning it poses an extreme danger to Europe.
“It is also strange in view of the fact that the deportation of migrants who are not afforded asylum status is already proving to be an almost impossible task”, he added.
The Chief Security Advisor pointed out that according to NATO forecasts the arrival of some 60 million migrants from Africa is expected by 2020, meaning that “it is more urgent than ever to protect Europe through wise decisions”.
Speaking on Kossuth Radio’s early morning “180 Minutes” programme on Wednesday, Mr. Bakondi said with relation to the fact that the secret service had warned of the recent increase in the threat of terrorism that the latest information also concerns possible terrorist attacks using chemical and biological weapons.
“In addition, agencies also warn that in recent weeks and months over 6 thousand people who once fought for the Islamic State have returned to Europe”, he said.
“It is also clear that far from decreasing, migration pressure is in fact increasing, and particularly along the Balkan and Spanish migration routes. Meanwhile the European population’s resistance to migration is increasing, which could lead to political changes in member states and as a consequence also to changes in European migration policy”, the Chief Security Advisor said.
“The Hungarian Government does not wish to comply with any kind of quota system so as not to become an immigrant country”, Mr. Bakondi said.
