“The internal security situation has worsened radically throughout Europe in the past two and a half years, but in contrast, in Hungary national security and public safety have both improved”, Chief Security Advisor to the Prime Minister György Bakondi declared on Wednesday at the public forum in Gyomaendrőd on the National Consultation launched with regard to the “Soros Plan”.

Mr. Bakondi explained that, amongst others, the “Soros Plan”, which aims to settle one million migrants in Europe every year and demolish the border security fence, and which supports mandatory distribution, would endanger this security, in addition to which the plan recommends that migrants should be paid 9 million forints in benefits and receive more lenient sentences with relation to the crimes they commit.

“The implementation of the ‘Soros Plan’ would mean the suppression of the languages and cultures of European countries, in addition to which the billionaire is also encouraging legal and political attacks against countries who oppose immigration”, he declared. “it is against this that we must defend Hungarian achievements: job creation, the reduction of public utility charges, the increase in the minimum wage, support for families and increasing public safety”, Mr. Bakondi said in the town civic centre’s auditorium, which was completely full.

“The Government’s response to demographic problems is to reinforce communities, unite the nation and support families, as a result of which the number of marriages and births have increased”, he declared.

In reply to a question, the Chief Security Advisor said that neither the security situation nor the number of migrants arriving from the direction of Romania justify the construction of a fence along the Hungarian-Romanian border. “This is not a main migration route for the moment; illegal immigrants are being apprehended by Hungarian police and are being re-accepted by the Romanian authorities”, he said, adding that Hungary is ready to provide police assistance to Romania, but is prepared for all eventualities; “the fence elements have already been manufactured”.

Mr. Bakondi reminded those present that in 2015, 400 thousand migrants from 106 countries entered Hungary, of whom 177 thousand submitted requests for asylum, but 165 thousand subsequently fled the country. “During the past two and a half years, 350 Europeans have lost their lives as a result of terrorist attacks”, he added.

The Chief Security Advisor stressed that the Hungarian Government is showing solidarity in view of the fact that it is helping the Serbians, Macedonians and Slovenians by providing police, in addition to which it is affording asylum to true political refugees. “Hungary took in 450 refugees in 2015, 530 in 2016 and has taken in over 700 refugees so far this year”, he explained.

According to Mr. Bakondi, Brussels is planning to introduce an unlimited quota, redefine immigration regulations, and fine countries that refuse to accept migrants. “If lots of people fill out the National Consultation questionnaire, Prime Minister Viktor Orbán ‘will be able to enter into debates with a major level of support’; this is what is at stake during the National Consultation”, the Chief Security Advisor emphasised.
