On Thursday György Bakondi, Chief Security Advisor to the Prime Minister, told Hungarian television channel M1 that the European Union’s external Schengen borders should be protected by joint European efforts and the deployment of European border and coast guards.

Mr. Bakondi said that the effectiveness of external border protection is determined by the weakest point.

He also said that, although various studies are being published on migration, the majority of them conclude that “it is not about migrants who have suddenly decided to set off at once”, but that a prolonged process can be expected, and the population reservoir in Asia and Africa is of unpredictable magnitude.
