Fifty-one illegal border-crossers were detained by police in the territory of the country from Friday to Sunday, the National Police Service informed the Hungarian news agency MTI on Monday.
According to the statistics published on the police website, 24 foreigners who were in the country’s territory illegally were detained both on Friday and on Sunday; they were escorted by uniformed police across the temporary security border fence. On the Romanian and Ukrainian border sections three migrants were apprehended.
On the basis of the legal rules in force as of 28 March 2017, during an emergency caused by mass immigration members of the police may detain in the territory of the country and may escort back to the border fence any foreigner illegally present in the territory of Hungary if the suspicion of the commission of a crime did not emerge.
Last week 75 migrants were detained in total in the territory of the country, and they were escorted by police back to the border. The week before – from 2 April to 8 April – this number was 101. Four migrants were apprehended on the Romanian and Ukrainian border sections last week, police statistics reveal.
