At today’s meeting, the Cabinet discussed further measures to support foreign currency borrowers, such as the formulation of the Act regarding settling accounts. The Government has asked the related expert working group to continue its intensive legal efforts to enable the new bill to be put before Parliament as soon as possible. The Government will decide on the final draft of the bill at next week’s cabinet meeting.

The Government also reviewed the results of legal action so far, from which it is evident that the state is successfully protecting citizens from the banks, which are unable to prove that they treated borrowers fairly. The Government has commissioned one hundred lawyers with expert knowledge on banking practices to help provide justice for foreign currency borrowers.
The Government’s objective remains to provide justice to families, to ensure that people receive back monies that they were charged unfairly, and to finally enable an age of fair banking.
