On Saturday, significant quantities of individual protective supplies are arriving in Hungary, a staff member of the duty centre of the Operational Group responsible for the containment of the coronavirus epidemic said at an online press conference held on Saturday.

Róbert Kiss highlighted that four cargo flights are arriving at Liszt Ferenc International Airport, Budapest, delivering 193 cartons of surgical face masks, 2,000 cartons of gloves and 1,479 cartons of isolation gowns. The total weight of the consignments is almost 20 tonnes, he added.

He also said since the introduction of the restrictions, the police have prosecuted 75 persons due to violations related to the restricted opening hours of retail stores.

Since 28 March, in connection with the restrictions of movement, the police have taken action in 22,361 instances, including 12,324 cautions, 5,200 onsite fines and 4,835 prosecutions, he said.

The Lt. Colonel also said the government decree which allows local governments to introduce more stringent local regulations via local ordinances for the weekend entered into force from Saturday. Several settlements have taken advantage of their special powers, he said, adding in answer to a question that they will review every week whether this measure is necessary; at the same time, in every instance, it is the government that has the authority to make a decision.

Police officers are maintaining public order and security on public premises and are also fulfilling their responsibilities related to the state of danger, he stated. He said the number of compulsory home quarantine orders has decreased; there are 12,150 compulsory home quarantine orders in effect, which is 251 fewer than on Friday, he pointed out. The reason for this is that every day the number of Hungarians returning from abroad who were required to retire to compulsory home quarantine and have already completed the quarantine period is increasing. He said they are expecting to see a decrease in the number of persons in home quarantine in the coming days.

Regarding border traffic, he said there could be delays in cargo traffic on the entry side at Hegyeshalom and in passenger traffic on the exit side at Nagylak.

In answer to a question regarding the fact that fitness centres are planning to reopen in a number of places, he pointed out that they will continue to monitor the restricted opening hours of shops and other outlets, and will impose sanctions if they experience any irregularity.
