The Gyöngyöspata school lawsuit will feature in two questions in the new national consultation, László Horváth, the Prime Minister’s appointee and Member of Parliament for the constituency said on Saturday in a video message that is accessible on the government’s Facebook account.
The Prime Minister’s appointee highlighted that in the Gyöngyöspata case, local Roma instituted a lawsuit “at the initiative of an organisation funded from abroad” and were eventually awarded damages to the value of HUF 100 million.
One of the questions is about whether respondents believe that these damages are fair. The other question is about the fact that now that they have been awarded these damages, in what form they should be provided, he added.
“We take the view that educational and training programmes would best serve the Roma community’s interests because this is what enables them to find jobs and to break out of poverty,” Mr Horváth stressed.
He added that recently unemployment in Roma society has fallen to one half, and the government would like to see this process continue.
“These are important questions, this is why they feature in the consultation, and this is why we ask you, too, to state your opinion,” he said.
