The National Police Headquarters announced on its website that the Hungarian police contingent returned after one month strengthening the Macedonian-Greek border.

According to police.hu, the contingent of 25 police officers took part in the joint operation with the Macedonian authorities between 27 October and 27 November 2016.

The Hungarian side has supported the protection of the border section with four wheel drive vehicles, heat cameras and night vision devices.

The police officers have primarily performed border patrol duties to prevent and detect illegal border crossings. In addition, they have also been involved in apprehending people smugglers and immigrants who have entered the territory of Macedonia illegally.

The professionals who returned from Macedonia have not only been on duty in the immediate vicinity of the border, but also on main and minor roads within the country’s territory, the statement continues.
