Hungarian police officers to assist border protection efforts in Serbia and Macedonia again.
On Wednesday in Budapest Major General István Kovács, deputy for economic affairs of the national police commissioner bade farewell to members of the police contingents who will serve at the Serbian-Bulgarian and Macedonian-Greek borders, the communication service of the National Police Headquarters informed the public on the website police.hu.
Fifteen police officers are travelling to Serbia and thirty to Macedonia. They will perform patrolling duties in the interest of preventing and detecting illegal border crossing attempts, while they will also take part in the detention of people smugglers and illegal immigrants.
The Hungarian contingents will also support the protection of the border sections in question with service vehicles, night vision devices and thermographic cameras.
The Hungarian police officers serving in the territories of Serbia and Macedonia will perform their duties with their own equipment and will exercise their policing powers under the guidance and supervision of the Serbian and Macedonian parties, the communication reads.
