Hungary does not wish to change its tried and tested migration policy, the Chief Security Advisor to the Prime Minister stated on the Friday evening programme of the public service television news channel M1.
György Bakondi was asked about the Thursday decision of the Court of Justice of the European Union, ruling that the placing of asylum-seekers or persons who are subjects of return decisions in the Röszke transit zone qualifies as detention.
The Chief Security Advisor believes it is not a coincidence that this swift decision of the court coincided with the debate about Hungary in the European Parliament. He took the view that they are trying to exert political pressure in order to induce Hungary to change its established border policing regime and migration policy.
He highlighted that since 2015 “non-governmental organisations organised by George Soros”, left-wing liberal parties and the apparatus of the European Union have made every effort to enable migrants to transit through Hungary and to eliminate border controls, meaning to enforce the interests and political goals of others instead of the will of the Hungarian people.
Mr Bakondi also drew attention to the fact that if the restrictions currently in place due to the coronavirus epidemic are lifted, illegal migration could enter a more dynamic phase. He added that there are some 600,000 illegal immigrants in Libya, and migrants will also start setting out for Europe from Tunisia and Algeria. We must additionally prepare for the eventuality that Turkey will pursue a migration policy, as part of which it will seek to put pressure on the European Union by opening its borders, the Chief Security Advisor said.
