“The Hungarian Government rejects the migrant quota, but will continue to gladly help in the protection of European borders and in the returning of illegal immigrants”, Chief Security Advisor to the Prime Minister György Bakondi said on Hungarian M1 television’s Wednesday morning current affairs program.

“The idea of distributing migrants according to voluntary quotas has already failed on several occasions. It does not help the situation at all, and is in fact more of an invitation for people planning to come to Europe and for people smugglers”, Mr. Bakondi said. “Last time, only seven of the EU’s 28 member states supported the voluntary quota in some form”, he pointed out.

Speaking on Kossuth Radio’s “Good Morning, Hungary!” show, the Chief Security Advisor highlighted: “Hungary does not lie on the main Balkan migration route, but even so over 8600 illegal border crossing attempts have already been registered so far this year”. “The number of refugees in Turkey is increasing, and the Kurdish situation could also represent a further problem with relation to migration aimed at Europe”, he added.
