Hungary shares solidarity with everyone in Europe who seeks to defend themselves against terrorism, György Bakondi, Chief Advisor for Security of the Prime Minister said on Tuesday on the public service television news channel M1.
He highlighted: whether a country takes in people „of unknown identity and nationality who came here for reasons unknown to us” on the basis of a central decision cannot be the sole yardstick for measuring solidarity.
He stressed: Hungary, the Government, the Hungarian people and the law enforcement agencies share solidarity with everyone in Europe who seeks to defend themselves „against illegal migration, terrorism and crime”, inter alia, by sending police forces abroad, exchanging information, providing training and technical equipment, or providing financial assistance, for instance, in Syria.
He repeated the Government’s position to the effect that letting people „in unlimited numbers” into Europe and seeking to distribute them among the Member States of the European Union is not the ideal solution. We should instead concentrate on the protection of the external borders and the installation of so-called hotspots outside the EU.
Mr Bakondi was interviewed with regard to the fact that the German Chancellor said in Berlin during the course of the day: the European Union has not yet done „its homework” on the refugee issue as the Dublin system is clearly ineffective, and not every Member State is prepared to take part in the fair and just distribution of refugees.
Angela Merkel stated that „further intensive efforts must be made” in the interest of the reform of the Dublin EU asylum system and the distribution of refugees among the Member States as it is unacceptable that the Member States only manifest solidarity when it is in their interest.
