György Bakondi, Chief Security Advisor to the Prime Minister told Hungarian public television channel M1 that Hungary shows solidarity towards other defending and war-torn countries, and it has granted political asylum to a vast number of refugees who could enter the country as a result.
Mr. Bakondi said that last year, some three hundred people were granted asylum. In addition, Hungary is contributing to processes aimed at controlling the migration wave by providing financial means and transport capacities, building hospitals, and military presence.
He further said that there is currently a stalemate in the search for solutions on an EU level: no unanimous decision can be reached regarding the quotas; therefore the Slovak Presidency will have to prepare an intermediate solution.
According to Mr. Bakondi, the situation is “permanent” at the Hungarian border section: migrants bypass the border towards the direction of Croatia and Romania, but border protection has been strengthened in every state concerned.
