According to the Chief Security Advisor to the Prime Minister, if there is no transit zone, the two foreigners who are accused by the authorities of financing terrorism would have been settled in accommodation within the territory of the country from which they would have left within 24 hours.

On Thursday on the public service television news channel M1 György Bakondi was asked about the fact that officers of the Counter Terrorism Centre (TEK) arrested two individuals in the Röszke transit zone. One of them claims to be Iranian, while the other Turkish.

The chief advisor said the two foreigners had submitted regular asylum requests. They were identified as suspects while they were awaiting the assessment of their applications. He pointed out that this also means that these individuals did not attempt to cross the green border because they realised there was no chance of successfully crossing via the fence. He added that international intelligence exchanges had led to the arrests.

He said without stopping illegal migration at the borders and tightening regulations regarding entry, it is difficult to speak of public security, let alone national security. He added that positions at the other end of the spectrum which regard migration as a positive phenomenon and a successful process appear to be contradicted by the fact that in a number of European countries migration became the main issue of the elections, and the people expressed their will by stating that “they do not want things to continue like this”.
