On Saturday, György Bakondi, Chief Security Advisor to the Prime Minister told public television channel M1 that thanks to the recently introduced in-depth border protection measures, illegal border crossings have ceased.
Mr. Bakondi said that border patrol officers stop migrants attempting to cross Hungary’s border illegally either when crossing the fence or within eight kilometres of the border, and accompany them back to the nearest gate in the fence.
The Chief Security Advisor also pointed out that the number of migrants in Hungary has also decreased: aliens policing centres and guarded and open camps have reached 41 and 60 per cent of their intake capacities, respectively.
