Increased migration activity can be experienced at the borders, not only in Hungary, but also in Italy, the Chief Security Advisor to the Prime Minister said on the Friday evening programme of the public service television news channel M1.

György Bakondi added that due to this and also with regard to the coronavirus pandemic, the protection of the external borders is becoming ever more important.

In addition to protecting the borders, the Hungarian government also follows the principle that help must be taken where there are problems; last week, they helped the Moria camp gutted by fire on the Island of Lesbos with more than HUF 10 million.

In this context, he also highlighted that many of the residents of the Moria camp – with a high percentage of coronavirus infections among them – do not want to move to the newly set-up camp, they are demanding that they are allowed into Western Europe.

According to Mr Bakondi, in the wake of the incident that occurred at the migrant camp, ever more signs appear to indicate that “in addition to help cheerleaders”, groups looking for political profit will also join in, with a view to placing the distribution of migrants on the basis of mandatory quotas on the agenda again.
