According to the Chief Security Advisor to the Prime Minister, there has been increased movement on both the green and sea borders recently; more immigrants are arriving at the Greek islands and Sicily than earlier.

On the Saturday evening programme of the public service television news channel M1 György Bakondi said one of the reasons for this phenomenon is the favourable weather, while there are also problems with the implementation of the agreement concluded by the Italian government with Libya. Fights have broken out once again in the North African country, and illegal migration has therefore intensified. At the same time, the organising institutions are “reaping the benefits” again, as they are bringing Sub-Saharan Africans to Europe at a considerable profit, he pointed out.

By his account, due to the fence there is no significant increase in movement on the Turkish-Bulgarian border, but major intensity can be observed on the Greek-Turkish river border sections which are difficult to control, and more and more migrants are arriving at the Greek islands.
