According to the Chief Security Advisor to the Prime Minister, increasing emigration is making it more difficult for African countries to find their feet.

Speaking on Hungarian M1 television’s Wednesday morning current affairs program, György Bakondi said the UN Global Compact for Migration and the EU’s migration policy are approaching the provision of aid in African countries incorrectly.

“Instead of encouraging as many mobile young people who speak several languages and have gained professional training to leave the continent, we should be reinforcing their middle classes through educating talented youngsters”, he added.

“Amongst others, the Hungarian Government is facilitating this by enabling hundreds of young people to study in Hungary with state scholarships. The high level of knowledge and experience these young people gain in Hungary can then be applied by them in their own countries as members of their own middle classed”, he stated.

“If necessary, the retention capabilities of source countries must also be supported through investment and financial aid, and thereby the improving economy will lead to a reduction in the number of people who can only imagine making a better living abroad”, Mr. Bakondi said.
