According to Chief Security Advisor to the Prime Minister György Bakondi, the European Union (EU) should break with its existing migration policy and should not regard the implementation of the “Soros Plan”, i.e. assuring that as many illegal immigrants arrive in Europe in an organised manner, as its main priority.

In an interview on Kossuth Radio’s “180 Minutes” program on Wednesday, Mr. Bakondi recalled that the Hungarian Government has been severely criticised for its measures to prevent illegal immigration, while the leaders of Western European countries are stressing the importance of protecting the EU’s external borders. He indicated with relation to this that infringement proceedings are ongoing against Hungary because of the security fence and transit zones, i.e. “Hungary is being put under political and legal pressure”.

“The Hungarian Government will not bow to political or legal pressure; it regards the safety of Hungarian citizens as its primary priority and will continue to do everything possible to this end”, the Chief Security Advisor stressed, adding that without proper border controls there can be no domestic security and national sovereignty would also become strongly uncertain.

Speaking on Hungarian M1 television’s Wednesday morning current affairs program, Mr. Bakondi said Hungary was a popular tourist destination and tourist safety has recently become an increasingly important criteria.

The fact that Hungary has was listed as the ninth safest tourist destination recently based on information from the British Foreign Office was the result of major professional, political and human efforts.

“Border security is the key to a country’s sovereignty and internal security”, Mr. Bakondi highlighted.
