György Bakondi, Chief Security Advisor to the Prime Minister has told Hungarian television channel M1 that the route of people smugglers via the Mediterranean to Italy will remain active despite the cold weather as long as Italian authorities do not take back refugees to Africa where they come from.

According to Mr. Bakondi, the idea of taking back migrants has already emerged, but it is not feasible to make agreements with Libya but with Egypt or Tunisia.

Mr. Bakondi also talked about the relationship between American President-elect Donald Trump and the EU’ migration policy. He believed that instead of the politically correct approach witnessed so far, Mr. Trump’s realistic migration policy could help make the Hungarian position on the migration issue more accepted within the EU.
