According to György Bakondi, Chief Security Advisor to the Prime Minister, the main focus should be placed on protection of the Serbian border; construction of a fence along the Romanian border is it is not yet warranted.
On Friday evening Mr. Bakondi told Hungarian television channel M1 that the Government has reviewed short- and long-term forecasts and has therefore decided to establish a second line of defence – which will be safer, stronger and better-equipped than the current one. The Ministry of Interior is preparing a number of alternatives, and the Government will base its final decision on grounds of cost.
On Friday Prime Minister Viktor Orbán said that the Hungarian-Serbian border security barrier must be strengthened, which is why another line of fence equipped with the latest technology will be built along that border section.
Mr. Bakondi said that over the past few weeks the number of migrants arriving in the Greek islands has doubled on a weekly basis. The islands have reached their full capacity, thus some illegal migrants are being transported to mainland Greece.
He highlighted the fact that migration from Bulgaria and Romania is also intensifying, but he said that no further decisions need to be made in this regard yet.
