On Monday, György Bakondi, Chief Security Advisor to the Prime Minister, told Hungarian television channel M1 that many migrants are providing authorities with false data and are not waiting for their asylum requests to be processed.
Mr. Bakondi said that people smugglers have instructed migrants how to behave if they are apprehended.
He said that migrants do not want to settle down in the first safe country they arrive in, but head towards Germany.
Mr. Bakondi considers the reinstatement of mandatory immigration detention to be an important step, which will ensure the safety of the EU’s citizens.
He further said that the Government considers strengthening protection on the Romanian and Ukrainian border sections to be unwarranted in the near future.
