On Sunday, György Bakondi, Chief Security Advisor to the Prime Minister told public broadcaster Kossuth Rádió that mass migration is organised, aggressive and illegal.

Mr. Bakondi said that in Europe, a complex political and internal security threat has come into existence, for the treatment of which decisive measures would be needed, EU institutions however show weakness. In addition to their incorrect or belated answers, the situation is also being complicated by the fact hat many people rather support migration than prevent it.

According to Mr. Bakondi, people are afraid and feel insecure because of the terrorist attacks that have had bad social, political and economic effects.

He stressed that the Islamic State – that has declared war on Europe – is behind the organised nature of illegal migration. Supporters of the terrorist organisation’s ideology want to shatter the European Union, Mr. Bakond said, adding that at the same time, more and more nation states realise that it is in their fundamental interest to fight against terrorism.

Mr. Bakondi pointed out that on 5 July, Hungarian authorities introduced so called in-depth border protection: providing that the apprehended migrant has not committed a crime, he is escorted back to the border security fence, and is shown through the gate to the nearest transit zone.

Since the introduction of the new regime, some 4,900 migrants have attempted to cross the border between Hungary and Serbia illegally. More than 3,100 attempts were prevented, and some 1,800 people were escorted back to the border fence, Mr. Bakondi explained.

He also said that authorities know of some 3,900 migrants in the Serbian border region, who have already attempted to cross the border or are planning to do so, therefore the continued presence of Hungarian police and military officers is still needed.
